Newborn Care
Newborn Primary Care in Manhattan, Kansas
Bringing a baby home is everything all at once — joy, exhaustion, a thousand questions, and the strange feeling that everyone expects you to just know what you’re doing. Most parents don’t, and that’s completely normal. What I want for the families I work with is to have someone they can actually call, who knows their baby, and who has time to answer the question that’s been keeping them up at night — not just the ones that fit in a 10-minute visit.
Newborn Primary Care at WHOLEhealth MHK is part of our Direct Primary Care model, which means longer visits, direct access to me, and a real relationship from the very first days of your baby’s life.
What Newborn Care Looks Like Here
We follow a thoughtful schedule of well-baby visits and weight checks through the first year — but what makes those visits different here is that we’re not watching the clock. I want to know how feeding is going, how you’re sleeping (or not sleeping), what’s worrying you, and how your whole family is adjusting. A baby’s health is tied up in the wellbeing of their parents, and I try to hold both at once.
Here’s what’s included in your baby’s care:
- Newborn well-baby visits and weight checks
- Feeding support — breastfeeding, formula, or combination feeding
- Sleep, soothing, and developmental guidance
- Sick visits and acute concerns when they arise
- Direct access to me via phone, text, or message
- Coordinated referrals when specialty care is needed
A Few Things I Want You to Know
You Won’t Be Pushed or Rushed
I believe in shared decision-making — I’ll give you clear, honest information and we’ll figure out the best path for your baby together. You’re the expert on your family. I’m here to help you feel confident, not hand you a one-size-fits-all protocol.
Postpartum Matters Too
I make space to talk about how you’re doing — not just the baby. Postpartum recovery, mental health, feeding challenges, sleep deprivation — these are real medical concerns that belong in the conversation.
Direct Access When You Need It
New parents have questions at 2am. That’s just the reality. Having direct access to your doctor means you don’t have to spend hours Googling — you can just ask me.
Care for the Whole Family
Because we’re a family practice, I can often care for both you and your baby. Postpartum support for parents fits right alongside newborn care here.
Family Medicine-Based Pediatric Care in Manhattan, Kansas
If you’ve ever rushed your child to an appointment and spent more time in the waiting room than with the doctor — or left still not sure whether you got a real answer — I understand the frustration. That kind of care is hard on families, and it’s hard on kids. It’s part of why I built this practice the way I did.
At WHOLEhealth MHK, children’s care happens in the context of a Functional Medicine Family Practice — meaning I care for your kids the same way I care for the adults in your family: as whole people, with real attention to what’s going on and why. This isn’t a dedicated pediatric office, and I think that’s actually a strength. When I know the whole family, I know the child better. From newborns to teenagers, I want to walk alongside your family through every stage — not just manage whatever landed you in my office today.
What Is Direct Primary Care for Children?
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a membership-based model that removes insurance from the day-to-day relationship between you and your child’s doctor. You pay a simple monthly fee and in return get longer appointments, direct access to me, and primary care that actually feels like primary care. Because we’re a family medicine practice — not a high-volume pediatric office — the care your child gets here is built around knowing your whole family. It’s not a replacement for insurance — I still recommend keeping coverage for hospitals, specialists, and emergencies — but for the day-in, day-out relationship with your child’s doctor, this model is a different experience entirely.
What’s Included in Your Child’s Care
- Well-child visits and developmental check-ins
- Sick visits for everyday illnesses and concerns
- School, sports, and camp physicals
- Acute and chronic care management
- Direct access to me via phone, text, or message
- Coordinated referrals when specialty care is needed
How I Approach Children’s Care
I Look at the Whole Child
Sleep, nutrition, gut health, mood, screen time, friendships, stress — these all matter and they’re all connected. I take time to look at the full picture, not just whatever brought you in today.
Visits Long Enough to Actually Help
I know the feeling of leaving a doctor’s appointment and remembering in the parking lot what you actually wanted to ask. That doesn’t happen here. We have time for the real stuff.
One Practice for the Whole Family
I can often care for your kids and the adults in the family under one roof. One doctor who knows everyone. One relationship you don’t have to re-explain every time.
Family Medicine Context
Knowing your family history, your household, and how your child fits into the bigger picture helps me see things a standalone pediatric visit often misses.
What to Expect at Your Child’s First Visit
Your child’s first visit is unhurried. I want to hear about them as a person — not just their chart. We’ll talk through wellness, growth, nutrition, sleep, and whatever’s on your mind. Going forward, when something comes up between visits, you have direct access to me. No phone tree, no waiting for a nurse to relay a message. Just a doctor who knows your kid and is available when you need her.
Care for Everyone Under One Roof
One of the things I’m most proud of at WHOLEhealth MHK is that you don’t have to piece together care from five different offices. Your newborn, your kids, and the adults in your family can all be patients here — with one doctor who knows your whole story and one monthly membership that covers everyone.
2 adults + up to 4 children
No per-visit fees*, no surprise bills for the everyday stuff — just a steady, predictable investment in your family’s health. *There is an additional charge for extra visits not requested by Dr. Tilley.
What Adult Primary Care Looks Like Here
Adult care in our DPC model is a little different from the children’s side — and I want to be upfront about that so you know exactly what you’re getting. Adults in the family plan receive 3 dedicated visits per year, which covers your well-woman or well-man annual exam plus follow-up visits for ongoing health concerns. Between visits, you have direct access to me for questions and guidance.
Membership also gives adults access to labs at our DPC cost savings — meaning you can get the bloodwork you actually need without the inflated fees that come with running everything through insurance. And for patients who need supplements or medications, we offer access to low-cost supplements and medications through our practice, which makes staying consistent with your care plan a lot more realistic.
What’s Covered for Adults
- Well-woman and well-man annual visits
- Sick care when you need it
- Routine follow-up for common conditions — including depression, hypertension, diabetes, and more
- Nutrition counseling
- Access to labs at DPC cost savings
- Access to low-cost supplements and medications through our practice
- Direct access to me via phone, text, or message
If you’re managing something more complex — hormones, gut health, chronic fatigue, or a condition that needs a deeper functional medicine lens — we can talk about whether one of our programs or functional medicine services would be a good fit alongside your DPC membership.
Common Questions
When should we establish care for our newborn?
I love when families connect with me during pregnancy — it gives us time to talk through your preferences and hit the ground running when the baby arrives. The first days after birth work too. We’ll figure out the right timing on your discovery call.
Do you support breastfeeding?
Yes — completely. We’ll talk through latch, supply, weight gain, and feeding plans, and I’ll connect you with additional resources when it would help. Whatever form feeding takes for your family, I take it seriously.
What if we’re formula feeding or combo feeding?
Fully supported. I meet families where they are. What matters is that your baby is fed and growing — and that you feel confident in how you’re doing it.
Can you also care for me as a postpartum patient?
In many cases, yes. Because we’re a family practice, postpartum support for parents often fits right into the care we’re already providing. We’ll talk through what that looks like for you specifically.
Do my kids still need insurance?
Yes — I recommend keeping it for hospitals, specialists, and emergencies. DPC takes care of the everyday relationship with your child’s primary care doctor, but insurance is still important for bigger things.
How is this different from a regular pediatric office?
A few things: longer visits, direct access to your doctor, a whole-person approach, and the fact that this is a family medicine practice — meaning I know your child in the context of your whole family, not in isolation. The thing families tell me most often is that they finally feel like someone actually knows their child — and knows them.
Can we get in quickly when our child is sick?
Yes — that’s one of the real advantages of this model. When your child is sick, you contact me directly. No waiting days for a callback or ending up at urgent care for something that could have been handled by your own doctor.
Do you do school and sports physicals?
Yes, those are included as part of your child’s care. No extra appointment needed to get the form signed.
What ages do you see?
I see children from infancy through adolescence — and the rest of the family too, when that’s a fit. I love being the doctor who watches a kid grow up.
